Hi all,
The light colour (K(elvin) value) are relatively unimportant but 6500K ("Natural Daylight") lamps will give you "more bang for your buck" . Any lamp will do, there is no advantage to buying "Aquarium" ones.
I like the T5 lamps, have a look here <http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/lighting.htm>.

Yes but alot of the new T5 fixtures are coming with bulbs the latest and greatest is Aquatic Life. These units fit together(locking) so goint to buy a 2 bulb unit and upgrading to a 4 bulb unit isn't hard anymore. And IE I just bought a nova extreme for 89.00 with bulbs (36").Last year I put a T 8 48" 4 bulb unit together and the end result was80.00 thats with the cheapo Home Depot bulbs.Aquatic life 2 bulb T5 runs around 114.00
