I just bought some of hte most beautiful blue rams I've ever seen. The only thing is they don't look like the typical blue ram which makes me wonder if they are a cross breed of some sort. Their face is almost golden like the gold ram and the back part of the body is blue like the blue ram. Having raised rams over the course of the past couple years on occasion it was nice to see such a beautiful color variation. As soon as i get the chance I'll post pictures of them!

Please, post pictures! I am sure that what you have are a domestic color variety of M. ramirezi, not a hybrid.

wild or 'less cultured' rams can have more yellow and pinks, and less solid blue than 'german blue' rams.

Just got my first rams recently, (discovered dwarf cichlids), the more I watch them, and as the colors are becoming more pronounced, love them. Have Bolivians and alone blue (got to get it some friends), but they are really beautiful fish, have found a variety that isn't appealing which could be a very bad thing, don't know where I would put more tanks LOL Feather

Sad news...unfortunately I lost the pair. They had looked great at the LFS but when I brought them back the manager had stated that they had lost the entire bunch they had gotten in as well. I had been the only buyer at that point. So we think he got in a bad shipment. My water was fine as well after it was tested. He is getting some from the same supplier later this week...lets hope they do better. :frown:

Had the same problem with the blue rams I purchased recently. The whole group was bad, managed to save one. Also hoping LPS shipment will be better this week. Feather

I've been having a very similar problem only with the females Rams I've been purchasing. I have lost 3 female Rams to date and I purchased all of them at different times. Not sure what it is about the females but they don't seem to last long. My 2 males, both in different tanks, are beautiful. I am looking to find more females but am so reluctant on using the same store even though the males have been fine.

The best sources for healthy Rams are hobbyist/breeders.

I was actually suprised to have lost the rams when I did. I've had incredible luck keeping blue rams its the gold rams I've always had trouble with I'll keep them alive for a couple months but they always seem to last about as long as most peole keep neon tetras for me at least.
I wish i could find some local breeders in the dayton area. I have heard of people raising bolivian rams, but I'm not really interested in keeping those all though they are quite beautiful. I guess I'll try again at the local fish store later.
