Just wondering if anyone here that is not from the States has ever bought anything from Aquabid and had it successfully shipped internationally in particularly Australia.
Are there any customs hassles or do they come straight to the door?

I'm facing a similar problem. I have the opportunity to get some really cool West Africans from a friend of mine in Europe (not through AquabBid), but have no clue what paperwork it would take to get these fish to the U.S. Anyone?

I did some more searching after posting my previous reply. Here's a website detailing regulations (and hassles) concerning import of tropical fish into the U.S.: www.characin.com/carey/articles/97/import_rules.html
I'm sure regulations are similar for Australia, but what do I know?!
The following link (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) might also be of interest: https://edecs.fws.gov/eDecsHome.cfm

I believe that Australian import requirements are much more stringant than those of the USA. I understand that every animal (including fish) brought into Australia has to either be from an importer that the Australian government has certified, or quarantined for several months at an Australian quarantine station (at the owner's expense) before they are allowed into the country. In other words, I am afraid that it is next to impossible for the average Australian hobbyist to bring fish into the country.

Well that sucks.
I had a look at the Australian customs site last night and found a similar result. I also found that it is illegal to import pencil erasers that look and smell like a food product.
As long as they have the most important things covered.....I'd hate to accidentally eat a pencil eraser
What a crock

roach , it is because australia is so geographically isolated and pretty well minimally involved in serious disease
being that a large proportion of australian export income has been derived from pastoral activities it makes sense to protect it

there should be a list of legal and illegal imports on the aqis web site somewhere
or prehaps a local dealr maybe able to direct you to it

I originally looked at doing this too and came to the same conclusion. To expand on Mike, all fish in have to go through a quarentine process, I believe 1 week for most fish and 2 weeks for cichlids. This has to be done at an importer with specific quarentine facilities.
There are at least 3 places I know of in Sydney that will import fish for you. Im not a fan at all of one of them, and he will make you import a minimum of 20 and pay for all of them, so we'll forget him. The other 2 one is Aquapets at Bondi. They are a very good shop, they have access to German import ships and tend to get some very high quality fish with a wide variety. The other is Slippery lil Suckers. These guys tend to be able to find anything your after, and have imported probably the rarest shipments i know. Its worth giving them a call and a chat, they've got some good fish coming in already. They advertise on the discus forum pretty often. Id recommend going with either of them.

In regards to legal and illegal list im not sure where a good one is but all Apistos are fine as are all Pelvicachromis. Otherwise Im not 100% sure, there are a few little South Americans and West Africans available.

I was in that shop in Bondi J the other day and had a good talk with the guy. I've had great fish from there in the past. Also got a great parking ticket from parking out the front too.
Haven't heard of Slippery lil Suckers but I'll look em up
